Program Development and Cancellation Policy

Purpose

The Little Falls Library offers programs to support its mission of providing free and equitable access to information, ideas, and opportunities for lifelong learning. Programs are designed to educate, enrich, and entertain the community, while fostering civic engagement, literacy, cultural awareness, and personal growth.

Program Development

  • Programs may be developed and presented by library staff, outside presenters, community partners, or volunteers.
  • Program topics and formats are selected based on community needs, interests, and library goals.
  • Programs are open to the public and free of charge, unless otherwise noted (e.g., supply fees).
  • Library programs are not intended for commercial, religious, or purely partisan purposes.
  • Presenters may provide information about their business, products, or services only at the discretion of the Library Director. Any promotional activity must be directly related to the subject of the program and should not overshadow the program’s educational or information value. The Library reserves the right to limit or restrict solicitation, distribution of materials, or sales.

Registration

  • Some programs may require advance registration due to space limitations, age appropriateness, or materials needs.
  • Registration may be completed online, by phone, or in person at the front desk.
  • Priority may be given to Little Falls residents and Little Falls library card holders when necessary.

Attendance

  • Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver unless otherwise noted in the program description.
  • Attendees are expected to follow the Library’s Code of Conduct during programs. Disruptive behavior may result in removal from the program.

Cancellation

The Library reserves the right to cancel, reschedule, or relocate programs due to:

  • Low enrollment
  • Presenter illness or unavailability
  • Severe weather, emergencies, or building closures
  • Other unforeseen circumstances

Library-Initiated Cancellations

  • When possible, registered participants will be notified by phone, email, or text.
  • Canceled programs may be rescheduled at the Library’s discretion.

Participant Cancellations

  • Participants who register for a program but are unable to attend are expected to cancel their registration at least 48-hours in advance, either by phone, or in person. Those who are unable to attend a program for which they are registered are asked to notify the library as soon as possible so that waitlisted individuals may attend.
  • Participants with three (3) no-shows* within a three-month period may have their program registration privileges suspended for 30 days. Library staff will notify patrons in writing (email or letter) if their registration privileges are suspended due to repeated no-shows. During this suspension period, participants may still attend library programs on a walk-in basis, if space is available, but may not register in advance. Participants who continue to demonstrate a pattern of no-shows may be subject to longer suspension periods, at the discretion of the Library Director.

* A no-show occurs when a registered participant fails to attend a program without prior cancellation.

Evaluation

The Library welcomes feedback about its programs. Evaluations may be used to improve future programming.

Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed every three years by the Library Board of Trustees and revised as necessary.
